There was a song that a church we used to attend would play quite often that wasn’t really a favorite of mine. So when it would be sang I would sort of tune out to the music and tune into God in other ways. But recently I’ve changed my perspective about the song. Thanks to my daughter that is.
It is one thing to hear you children sing–lovely. It is quite another to hear your child sing a praise song to God…spontaneously…and sing it worshipful…meaningful–priceless. The first time I heard my Allie sing the words to the song I realized two things: I never listened to the words and heard what was being communicated by the song. And, that I was deeply moved by her voice…so much was I moved I began to sing the song with her and I had to turn away from her at one point to weep.
Here are the words to the song. It is now one my favorites and also most treasured. I find myself singing it and Allie will come and sit on my lap and join me in the song–usually helping me with the words.
“HOW HE LOVES US”
He is jealous for me
Love’s like a hurricane,
I am a tree
the weight of His wind and mercy
When all of a sudden, I am unaware
of these afflictions eclipsed by glory
and I realize just how beautiful You are and how
great your affections are for me.
Oh, how He loves us so
Oh, how He loves us
How He loves us so. (x2)
